“For too long, Gov. Brown has put the fossil fuel industry above all others,” said actor and environmental defender Mark Ruffalo at a recent screening of our new mini-documentary, Dear Governor Brown, as reported by Hollywood Reporter.
Ruffalo is aligned with most Californians. Polls have shown the majority of state residents want a fracking ban. The majority of California’s citizens want to end offshore fracking and the dumping of fracking chemicals into the ocean. In California, as in the rest of the United States, when citizens are informed about the science behind fracking, they gravitate quickly toward asking for a ban.
That’s why many Californians are scratching their heads about Governor Jerry Brown. As a self-proclaimed climate change leader, he has continued to support measures for more offshore fracking, and increased drilling using toxic chemicals near schools and homes. He has continued to allow irrigation California’s crops with fracking wastewater while diverting huge water resources to the fracking industry during a historic drought.
Asking the Governor for Leadership
Our upcoming short documentary, Dear Governor Brown, calls on the Governor to make a decisive move to curtail and eventually end fracking in his state, cementing his reputation as a true climate leader. “Climate leader” and “fracking leader” are total contradictions in terms.
Our film Dear Governor Cuomo was part of a chorus of New York citizens who along with scientists helped convince Cuomo that fracking was a really bad idea. Gov. Brown has the opportunity to be a hero of the people instead of a hero of the corporations, and the film puts forth a very persuasive argument for the former.
California has many strong defenders, from Water Defense to Californians Against Fracking, and we’ve been on the ground in California working with them to produce this powerful mini-documentary.
We also the help of stars like Ruffalo and other prominent figures like Naomi Klein, who we recently interviewed for the film.
Stay tuned to Dear President Obama on Facebook and Twitter as we announce the release of Dear Governor Brown very soon!
